I refuse to keep scales in the house, and it's done me a world of good. I find it much easier to see myself as a PERSON rather than as a number.

Something I find problematic is that my parents keep scales in their house. They have to - my sister is a recovering anorexic and they need to keep track of her weight - but it's a serious issue for me because, well, as long as there's no scale around I'm fine, but if I'm in a place where I CAN weigh myself, it's really difficult not to give into the temptation to do so. I just...I wish I could keep myself away from scales without just keeping them out of my presence.

Anyway. I wanted to say thank you for this blog, it's really helping me to accept myself and love myself for who I am, rather than how I look.

Okay. Well, here's the deal. I have officially thrown out my scale today. February 1, 2009. (Well, its actually in my garage) But nonetheless. I'm done. I recall when I was the fittest and most happiest is when I was without scale, and I was listening to my instincts, my body, and FEELING how I felt in my body. I was totally obsessed and addicted to the scale. I am thin. I won't get into the stupid numbers or details, but I am. But I have been crazy because I'm a few pounds over my IDEAL weight. The magic number that I have come up for myself. Well, anyhoo, I guess I wanted to put something out there,to just state out loud, that I am doing this. I know I have a disorder with food, and the scale is just a symptom. But a friend with the same issues threw out her scale, and she's SO happy and free. And she didn't balloon into a huge obese woman. She's looking SO great. So, here I go. Wish me luck.
ps. If you don't have food issues, this may sound neurotic and rediculous. Please don't respond if that's the case. I'm sharing this in the hopes that others can share this journey with me, who have the same obssessive issues.

Save your money and don't buy a scale in the first place.

Scales are medical instruments used to detect extreme fluctuations in weight, which can indicate (if the fluctuation is happening naturally) illness. Unfortunately, with the mass marketing of them, women use them as daily monitors of how 'good' or 'bad' they've been. Even the medical industry abuses the use of the scale these days. I went to the doctor for an examination and after I was weighed, I innocently asked if my weight had changed 'normally.' The doctor started giving me dieting tips!!!

Scales have caused so much pain for women. Don't bother with the stupid device.

What if I bought a really nice scale & like it. I wouldn't want to waste the money by throwing it out the window. That means I would have a broken window & no scale. It's a lose/lose situation. This is tough. I feel like I'm writing to Ann Landers but not with issues just thoughtful life changing questions
