Wait, what’s going on?? What’s with the guilt trip on my menu? Last night I went out to a local chain restaurant with my friends. As I flipped through the menu I came across this and felt very confused. First, let me just say for the record that I don’t think that there is anything wrong ordering healthy food at a restuarant. But when did we think it was OK to associate food with guilt? Guilt is a legitimate response when you’ve wronged someone or made a terrible mistake, but guilt over food? You’ve seen these type of labels in the grocery store I’m sure. Even if I wasn’t feeling guilty a couple pages ago on the menu, I know that I should have been. Honey turn that page and order a cheeseburger.

I like this site but this particular ad attack isn’t working. I know when I’m trying to avoid junk foods to be healthier (i.e. lower my cholesterol, my blood pressure and increase the health of my heart) certain foods aren’t good for me and the diet I’ve determined to be best fit for the longevity of my life. So when i eat them they do make me feel guilty. I think you should either elaborate on your statements or avoid extremes altogether. This one seems like you doing too much! Here in Texas people should be feeling guilty about the junk they eat–it would save a lot of heart attacks.
I understand where you’re coming from, but I feel that if someone is going to feel guilty about what they eat, it should be an individual matter. Some people do eat too much junk food and compromise their health, but even those of us who are leading healthy lifestyles get the message that if we eat one slice of cake, we should regret it. I don’t think that ‘guilt’ should be anywhere on a menu. If you feel guilty about eating something, fine, but don’t extend that guilt to everyone else who wants to take a bite.
Everyone knows what foods are healthy and what are not. Let the guilt be a personal thing. You can’t save everyone.
