Apparently, this is Jennifer Hudson’s new album cover. Anyone notice anything different? That’s right, in a matter of hours, a person behind his/her computer was mastering the art of photoshop and managed to slim Jennifer down to something her record company apparently things will sell better. The writer of the linked article calls it a “digital diet.” I wonder how Jennifer must feel about this album cover? I wonder if it makes her feel at all like that is what she “should” look like?
It seems like photoshop is being used as a weapon more and more to nip, tuck, clip, trim women’s bodies into something they’re not. I think this is a sad display of how our society insists that thinner is better even if it’s not reality. I guess the big question is, “What was wrong with Jennifer before?” She had already lost a bunch of weight since American Idol, what more do they want from her?!
As the writer of the article suggests, this is very reminiscent of when BeyoncĂ© went on that crazy lemonade fast and lost a ton of weight. It’s almost like the media is screaming, “See a fat celebrity? Don’t worry guys, we’ll take care of it!” They assume that we HAVE TO have a thinner star, as if to say something terrible would happen to us all if we just let women stay themselves. Well, we loved Jennifer the way she was before the digital diet and I think it’s safe to say that no one is going to suffer a brain aneurysm from seeing a beautiful women showing her curves. So big media if you are out there: WE DON’T NEED YOU TO MAKE ALL WOMEN THIN, WE ARE FINE WITH WOMEN THE WAY THEY ARE.

Well, geez, we can’t have a fat-fat fatty fat fatty on an album cover, Meme Roth will moan that we’re “normalizing” fat if we allow pictures of people above size 8 to go into widespread circulation (unless they’re headless).
… because, you know… human bodies aren’t NORMAL, and this huge horrible “epidemic” of not-size-zero people is not because we’ve always been that way, but because fat people are FREAKS OF NATURE. OBVIOUSLY.
*headdesk*
It’s hard to tell with a greyscale picture, but I think he lightened her skin too.
J Hud……nnnnnnnooooooo!! !! !! !! !
A “digital diet” is like the old padded bra (or: ‘aqua-bra’ here in the 21st century *haha!*)…eventually, someone is gonna be able to tell you’re fronting.
Wow…hmmm….are you sure she didn’t just lose weight (as opposed to photoshop)?

You can’t really see her figure in that grecian-style dress on the red carpet, but she looks more slender than what I remember from the ‘dreamgirls’ days…
If she *did* lose weight on the natural, I wonder how that came about.
I noticed America Ferrera has lost weight since Ugly Betty started…the costumers keep trying to bulk her out with layered outfits and unflatteringly-cut clothes, but you can tell she has probably lost some.
Do the celebrities naturally feel better self-esteem and more confidence, and that somehow leads to unintentionally dropping some pounds…? Or do they go out with some of their new money and hire a personal trainer and a years’ supply of nutri-system food…?
Anybody remember Missy Elliott? I love her! She came into her popularity and was embraced by the public when she was still chubby – a fat black woman – ….lo and behold, a couple albums later she was sporting a slimmed-down bod.
It makes me wonder….why the change..? Was it self-motivated, or did the publicist make them do it…or photoshop..?
In the case of famous actresses and other female performers, you can pretty much bet your capacious pantaloons that they are getting relentless pressure from their record companies, agents, and producers to slim down. Movie roles and suchlike are held out as carrots in front of them to do so, and since they now have plenty of money and time to do it — since it’s considered their job to “look hawwwt” — very few of them are not going to cave in. There is a LOT of money at stake.
Wow I would have never known who that was if I’d just seen the photo alone.
I cannot wait until some famous lady has an absolute insane nuclear level type fit about this sort of thing. I want to see that so bad.
Jennifer Hudson is a beautiful full figured woman, just like Jordan Sparks (American Idol) and many others. I am positive that record agents are pressuring these women to look “hotter” meaning to be thin. But these women do look hot, just as they are. I couldn’t imagine these woman any thinner, their bodies are fine, beautiful and healthy. What is the purpose of trying to look “thin”? It doesn’t mean that person is more healthier then the next. I believe it’s because woman are looking for approval (from the wrong crowd). I am sure J Hudson liked what she saw on her new album, or maybe she didn’t, but it’s not her true self; her fans would know
Our media is going pretty crazy with the thinness. Incidentally, certain wedding photographers offer this “digital diet” for your entire wedding album. Then you’ll really have no chance of getting back to your (imaginary) wedding weight.
And for the record, the MasterCleanse Lemonade diet is awesome! Don’t knock it. I did it more for the detox than for anything else, but it changed my whole physiology. It was both a physical and spiritual journey not to eat solid food for 10 days. And yes, I resumed eating cheeseburgers after the cleanse.
It is disappointing. Especially because when you buy the CD, you don’t get it for the cover. It’s sad when the public will aim to look like these celebrities who are either struggling to look the way we think they do or don’t look like that at all.
It makes me feel much better when I look at pictures of my favourite stars. If they’re lying on the beach, posing in the sun, I try to remember that their “imperfections” have been removed and what I’m seeing doesn’t even exist.

Kinda like this?
Brit actress saved by outraged Emma
I cheered when I read this. I *heart* Emma Thompson.
